So where do people go find a trusted source with a fair price to buy gold and silver coins?

There is no dominant leader in the marketplace or source for certified graded and rated coins. Thereby it is very hard to find a trusted source and one with a fair equitable price.

Here's what is available in today's world.

TV - There are many shopping channels or info commercials on late night television that offer coins. Unfortunately most have extremely high TV advertising costs that are passed on into the prices of the coins.

Coin Shops/Pawn Shops - Although these can be found in the local geographical areas, most are located in neighborhoods that are, well, less than desirable. Furthermore, walking into a strip mall shop that has a buzzer entrance, 1" plexiglass, bars across the windows and Colt 45 pistol sitting on the desk does not give you a favorable shopping experience.

Coin Shows and Expos - Many may come to a convention center near you but are not local area merchants. You probably have no history with them and do not know their reputation. If there is a problem where or even how do you find them again?

Major Dealers - There are many national dealers that are advertising a lot on all forms of media like TV, radio, magazines, etc. Again, due to the high advertising expenses many encourage their sales people to move you away from buying the "advertised coin" into exotic coins. On top of that there seems to be a very high pressure for buying.

Internet - There are many trusted auction sites available but there are un-trusted people on them. Everyone seems to have such a great price for that one particular coin only to find out that the seller says something like, "There is only one little..." That one little problem usually renders the coin's value only at bullion. A greater problem is finding so many un-trusted sites in the Internet world.

Penny Saver/Newspaper - This could be a really great option if you meet at a Police station to do business but most people don't want to be turning over money to someone they've never met in some parking lot.

Lastly, you can get a personal referral or a find a trusted network of private collectors.
