I'm sure everyone has heard of Wordpress. It's an open source blog publishing application that provides both free and paid services. You can pay this company a fee or they will host your blog for free with certain restrictions. Some of these restrictions are written in such fine ink though you won't be able to read them until it is too late. Until you wake up and discover your website has completely been erased. Even then you may never know the reason for which it has been deleted.
Before putting your trust in a hosting service you should first familiarize yourself with the company and do some research on the company's service record. A basic search can easily be performed by using Google search. Just type in the company's name following the word "problems", "complaints", "scam", "review", etc. Whether it be technical problems, customer service problems or management problems you can rely more on what the public has to say about a service than what the services home page says. All those flashing banners and glittering promises can have more of a euphoric effect than provide an actual solution or benefit.
Another priority as soon as you have an actual website is to make a copy of the entire site and save it to your computer. You always need to make sure to update your saved copy every time you make changes to the actual site. Services like Wordpress can and will erase your site without notice, leaving you with the great joy of starting all over. Depending on how much time and effort you have put into your website and how much business your site is actually doing this could be impossible to fully recover from. If your account is for some reason suspended you won't have the opportunity to try and redirect your visitors. The only thing you can do is hope you were running statistics on your site. Then you might be able to recover some of the sources that send you visitors and change your link information.
Most hosting problems are technical however it's not the technical problems that can cause the most damage. This is why choosing the right hosting company is so crucial. There are businesses that exist for the sole purpose of evaluating website hosting services. These companies are usually a great source for reliable information regarding website hosting. If there are concerns or certain risks that you should be aware of, it's at these review sites where you can usually be informed. Even though the web hosting industry can be confusing and at times extremely deceiving it is also manageable as long as you prepare yourself before committing to a hosting service. It's the lack of knowing the gets you in trouble.
